What every consultation includes: a destination-specific risk assessment built on the CDC Yellow Book, vaccine counseling and local clinic referral, OTC guidance (antidiarrheals, antihistamines, motion- and altitude-sickness options), food & water safety planning, and a written clinical travel plan you keep. Where appropriate, eligible prescription travel medications are furnished and sent to your pharmacy. Especially experienced with South Asia corridors (India, Pakistan) — available in English, Punjabi, and Hindi.
Prescription Furnishing — How It Works
Under California Business & Professions Code § 4052(a)(10)(A)(3) and 16 CCR § 1746.5, a trained California pharmacist may independently furnish CDC-recommended travel medications that don't require a diagnosis — no physician visit and no collaborative practice agreement. After your consultation, eligible medications are transmitted electronically to the pharmacy you choose (CVS, Walgreens, Costco, or your local independent) for convenient pickup.
- Malaria prophylaxis (atovaquone-proguanil, doxycycline, mefloquine)
- Traveler's diarrhea standby antibiotics (azithromycin, rifaximin)
- Altitude sickness prophylaxis (acetazolamide)
- Motion sickness (scopolamine patch)
- Vaccine schedule planning & clinic referral (hepatitis A, typhoid, yellow fever)
Eligibility is determined during your consultation through a good-faith clinical evaluation and travel history, per 16 CCR § 1746.5. Your primary care provider is notified within 14 days, or you receive a written record if you have none.
